The Tully Free Library is committed to keeping pace with technological advances. We believe in open access to information. We believe in the importance of the individual. All Library services should be available whenever the Library is open.

VISION STATEMENT

We are committed to maintaining and expanding the quality of our library services as we move into the electronic age.

TULLY FREE LIBRARY: MISSION STATEMENT


The Tully Free Library serves the Town of Tully and under its Charter, extends its service area to the limits of the Tully Central School District, which includes portions of the towns of Fabius, Truxton, Preble, Otisco and Lafayette, providing up to date curriculum support for the Library patrons.

Reference Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Tully Free Library to bring the Library’s resources and potential users together through a variety of services. Reference service will be provided at all times that the Library is open.

Curriculum Support

It is the mission of the Tully Free Library to maintain close and constant contact with local education personnel for the purpose of providing full and up-to-date curriculum support for Library Patrons.

Pleasure in Reading
It is the mission of the Tully Free Library to have current and popular titles in books and media readily available to the patrons.

Long Range Plan for Library Services

GOAL: The library will provide accurate and timely information using both electronic and traditional print resources.
 Have staff capable of providing accurate responses to information queries by providing skill building opportunities.
 Have a timely and useful print collection.
--- o Continually evaluate areas of strengths and weaknesses for collection development. Concentrate on strengthening the following areas: New York State, American History, sciences, inventions and innovators, health, and job searching.

 Keep The Library current in electronic delivery of service.
 Maintain a high level of communication with patrons concerning reference services
--- o Seek to provide reference materials that patrons can use successfully with a minimum of staff assistance.
--- o Seek opportunities to teach patrons the skills needed for effective use of the Library.
--- o Inform the public of available resources with signs, publicity, press releases and program flyers.

GOAL: The Library will encourage reading for pleasure.
 Share the information about books that are "good reads."
--- o Continue to create display space for adult materials. Newer materials should always be displayed. Also, create displays to coincide with the seasons and time of year.
--- o Continue book displays for children and adults.

 Reading for pleasure will be encouraged for both children and adults.
--- o Continue story hours and reading-readiness activities for pre-school children in the Library.
--- o Provide space and support for literacy tutors.
--- o Encourage use of the Library by senior citizens in the community, and provide deliver of the library materials to shut-ins.
--- o Take reading to the community through book talks, book reviews and support of book discussion groups.

 The pleasure reading collection will be accessible.
--- o Provide alternative formats, such as large print or books-on-tape, for all ages.
--- o Encourage the use of the reserve/hold systems.

GOAL: The Library will provide curriculum assistance for all students.
 The Tully Free Library will have knowledge of local elementary and secondary curricula.
--- o Obtain and review a printed copy of New York State curriculum for each subject area, K through 12.

 Establish a flow of information regarding current assignments among local teachers.
--- o At the beginning of the school year meets with the principals and librarians regarding services and materials available.
--- o Purchase materials in the areas of recurring assignments.
--- o When Possible, borrow materials from other libraries to supplement our collection for assignments.

 School Librarians will look to us for reference backup for individual students’ needs.
--- o Inform school librarians of new reference titles as they are received.
--------• Copy title page and table of contents page and take to appropriate school librarian.
---o Provide space for tutors to meet with students.

 Keep community and parents aware of school/public library connection.
---o Write articles for the monthly newsletter such as information about programs and services provided by the Library.

 Provide computer space for use by students.
---o Achieve an upgrade of present computers and software.
---o Train staff as needed to provide assistance with software.

 Provide support and materials for home schoolers.
---o Arrange to meet with home schooling families to teach library skills.
