What is the difference between OverDrive WMA Audiobooks and OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks?
OverDrive WMA Audiobooks are digitally-protected audiobook titles available for download in the Windows Media Audio (WMA) format. OverDrive WMA Audiobooks are about half the file size of OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks but maintain the same level of audio quality. OverDrive WMA Audiobooks are generally compatible with MP3 players that support DRM-protected WMA files encoded at a bit rate of 32kbps. For a list of supported devices, click here. Many OverDrive WMA Audiobook titles can be transferred to iPods® and iPads® (where permitted by the publisher) using OverDrive Download Station. OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks are encoded at a bit rate of 64kbps and are available for download as MP3 files. Once I have checked out an OverDrive audio title, how do I download it?
- After checking out a title, click the ‘Download’ button for the title.
The OverDrive Download Station Wizard opens. - Connect your supported MP3 player. Verify that the correct title is displayed on the OverDrive Download Station Wizard’s ‘Welcome’ screen, and click the ‘Next’ button.

The MP3 player is detected, and the ‘Confirm’ screen is displayed. - At the ‘Confirm’ screen, choose which Part(s) you would like to download and transfer by placing a checkmark next to the desired Part(s), and clicking the ‘Next’ button.
OverDrive Download Station downloads and transfers the selected Part(s) to the MP3 player. The ‘Status’ screen displays the download and transfer progress for each Part.
When the download and transfer is complete, the ‘Success’ screen is displayed. - Click the ‘Finish’ button to exit the OverDrive Download Station Wizard. Disconnect your MP3 player.
- Sign out of your account if you are finished checking out and/or transferring titles.
